Captions for Literacy was founded in 2006 by Laura Lou Meadows and John Taggart to promote the use of captioning and same-language subtitling for improving literacy in the United States.
In 2013, Laura Lou and John retired from the organization and Rowan McVey was appointed Executive Director.
